Chronicles of Kashmir:
A state well-known for its conflicts and politics is also known for its great destinations. The word Kashmir is derived from Ka – water, and shimeera – to desiccate. Tradition says that Kashmir was originally a lake that was drained by the great saint of ancient India Kashyap. Buddhism was the core religion followed here back in 250 BC later due to the conquer of Mughals, Afghans, British, the place undergone rapid transformation and has become the place with versatile culture and tradition. The culture of Kashmir is blended with multiple customs and came from Northern India, Northern Pakistan and the Chinese territory of Aksai chin. ·      Mughal gardens –  It’s an UNESCO recognized place which also known as the Gateway of Kashmir. The garden I s well-maintained, clean, peaceful and perfect garden located in the foothills of Pir-panjal mountains.

·      Shikara ride - Shikara ride ranks on the top of the list of the best things to do in Kashmir. No smoke or sound of the vehicles, no disturbance. Listen to the bliss of fresh water and nature.

·      Shankar archarya temple – Top religious attraction is Jyeshteshwara Temple, is accessible by a staircase of 243 steps and is visited by a large number of Hindu devotees during the Amarnath Yatra season.

·      Pari mahal – It is also known as Angels’ Abode which is a seven terraced garden located at the top of Zabarwan mountain range over-looking city of Srinagar and south-west of Dal Lake. The architecture depicts Islamic style and patronage of art during the reign of the then Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

·      Nishat garden – It is a garden of joy and delight built by Mughals on the eastern side of Dal lake. It is the second largest Mughal garden in India. 

·      Shalimar garden - Shalimar Bagh is a Mughal garden in Srinagar, linked through a channel to the northeast of Dal Lake. It is also known as Shalimar Garden, Shalimar Bagh, Farah Baksh and Faiz Baksh, and the other famous shore line garden in the vicinity is Nishat Bagh.

Summer time:

During summer, the temperature is not high and doesn’t exceed as high as 30 to 31 degrees especially in march to may. Summer at Kashmir is little warm and locals use fans. This time is ideal for romantic couples for their honeymoon trip. Kashmir during the summers is also a great chance to observe the way of life of the people in the valley. Some people like to stay in the houseboats that are stationed on the lake and its overall a delightful experience.

During this time, the temperature ranges from 15 degree to high as 30 degrees celcius especially in June to spetember. During this period, Jammu sees quite a bit of rainfall and comfortably cool. The month between November to February is expected to be as low as temperatures of 0 degree to sub zero too. The weather is significantly colder. For those who relish the idea of a winter wonderland, then Kashmir during winter can get quite exciting. Jammu is not as cold as Srinagar and that’s why it’s the winter capital.

How to Reach:
By Air

Srinagar airport operates flights to the major cities of India like Goa, Delhi, Leh, Mumbai, Bangalore and Jammu. Srinagar airport is located at a distance of 14 kms (approx) from the city centre. Jammu also has its own airport which is located just 8 kilometers away from the city of Jammu.

 

By Train

In the present time there is no railway station in Srinagar. The nearest railway station to Srinagar is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, which is located almost 300 kilometers away from Srinagar.

 

By Road

Jammu & Kashmir enjoys a good road connectivity and can be reached by road. NH1 and NH44 connects Kashmir to major cities of India. Buses operated by the J&K State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) also connect Jammu to other nearby cities like Patnitop (110 km), Srinagar (264 km) and Amritsar (214 km).
